The biomass industry places unique demands on bulk handling equipment. From wood chips and pellets to torrefied biomass and other renewable fuels, materials are often abrasive, inconsistent in size and capable of causing premature wear or costly production downtime if the wrong equipment is specified.
At Rotolok, we’ve been supplying the power and energy sector for decades, developing valve solutions that are designed specifically to overcome these challenges. Whether it’s maintaining a reliable airlock, controlling material flow or minimising wear in demanding environments, our range of rotary valves, diverters and slide valves are engineered to deliver long-term performance.
For many biomass applications, reliability is critical. Unplanned downtime can have a significant impact on plant productivity, which is why our products are designed with durability and service life in mind. From heavy-duty casings and wear-resistant materials through to ATEX-certified options for hazardous environments, every valve is built to provide dependable operation in real-world conditions.
One example is our 600mm Heavy-Duty Rotary Valve, developed in collaboration with a leading European biomass specialist. Featuring a casing 25% thicker than our standard valve, tungsten carbide wear protection, a 70% larger rotor shaft and upgraded heavy-duty bearings, it has been specifically engineered to withstand the demanding conditions associated with biomass handling. More than 65 of these specialist valves are now operating successfully in the field, delivering reduced maintenance requirements and lower lifetime operating costs.
Selecting the correct valve is just as important as selecting the right size. Material characteristics, conveying method, pressure requirements and wear considerations all play a part in achieving reliable, efficient operation. Our experienced engineering team works closely with customers to ensure every solution is correctly specified for its application.
