Rotolok Delivers Specialist Biomass Rotary Valves

Published - 21st May 2026

Rotolok has recently completed the manufacture of another batch of 600mm Heavy-Duty Rotary Valves, purpose-built for demanding biomass handling applications.

Biomass pellets — particularly torrefied pellets — can present significant operational challenges due to their abrasive nature and tendency to cause jamming if equipment is not correctly specified. Rotolok’s Heavy-Duty Rotary Valve was developed specifically to overcome these issues, in collaboration with a leading European company operating within the biomass sector.

Engineered from the ground up for reliability in biomass energy generation environments, the 600mm Heavy-Duty Rotary Valve incorporates a range of enhanced design features. The casing is 25% thicker than Rotolok’s already robust standard 600mm valve, while tungsten carbide facing within the bore delivers exceptional wear resistance.

To further improve durability, the valve features a 70% larger rotor shaft, alongside upgraded heavy-duty double row spherical roller bearings, ensuring dependable performance under continuous operation. All fixings and fasteners have also been selected to withstand the demanding maintenance conditions often found in biomass facilities, where minimising downtime is critical.

The valve is also supplied with ST2 (10 bar) explosion protection and ATEX certification, making it well suited to hazardous operating environments where safety and compliance are essential.

This latest shipment brings the total number of these specialist units delivered to more than 65, all of which continue to perform reliably in the field, helping customers reduce downtime, extend equipment lifespan and achieve measurable operational savings.
